What is an AI chatbot?

A conversational interface that answers from whatever material it has been given. The technology is rarely what decides whether one succeeds. The ones still running after a year have real source material written before launch, a route to a person on every turn, an explicit list of things they must never say, and something they actually cause such as a booking or a captured enquiry. The ones that get removed are usually missing the first two.
