What is prompt engineering?

The practice of shaping what you ask a system so it does the right thing reliably. It is real work and it is routinely overrated: most output that comes back generic is missing facts, not missing adjectives, and no instruction to be less generic fixes an absent source. The highest- value prompt work is usually specifying the reader, the destination, what a good answer does, and what the system must never say.
