It reaches whoever is scrolling when you post, which is a small and fairly random slice of your customers. The point of doing it from your sales history as well is that the person who bought the same brand last season hears about it directly, in their size. The post stays, this runs underneath it.
Our stock counts are not perfect. Does that break this?
No, but it does set the honest wording. Where counts are reliable the system answers directly. Where they are not it says the item shows as in stock and offers to have someone confirm and hold it, which is what a good staff member says anyway.

Showrooms and furniture

Can it quote a delivered price on a custom order?

Allergen questions are a safety issue. Should a system answer those at all?
Only from your own product data, and only where that data is complete. Anywhere it is not, the correct behaviour is to say so and get a person, which is exactly how the escalation rules get written. A system that guesses about allergens is a design failure, not a feature.
We take orders on paper at the counter. Does this force us to change that?
No. The counter keeps working the way it works. What gets captured is everything arriving from outside the shop, which is where things currently get lost.

Jewellery and high-value retail

Can it handle a customer asking for a price on a piece?
It answers what is published and gets a person for anything that is not. High-value retail is the last place a system should improvise a number.

Why retail is different from ecommerce, and why the advice is wrong

Nearly all retail automation content is written for online stores, and it does not transfer.

Your inventory is physical and local. That is a disadvantage online and an advantage in your neighbourhood, but only if the shelf is visible to someone searching two streets away.

We are a single shop with three staff. Is this too small to bother?
Small shops lose the most to the missed call, because there is nobody else to pick it up. One workflow, usually the phone, is a short project and it is where most shops should start.
Do we have to change our point of sale?
No. We build on top of what you run and only suggest replacing something when it is genuinely the bottleneck. Most of the time it is not, it just needs to be reachable from somewhere it currently is not.
What if our inventory data is messy?
That is the normal starting condition, and it changes the wording rather than the plan. The system says what it can stand behind and offers a human check for the rest. Cleaning the data is often the second project once the first one has proved it is worth doing.
Will customers be annoyed by an automated answer on the phone?
